We're putting this one at the top because it is important! Ajijic is a walking town in spite of, not because of, its streets. They are large cobblestones and the sidewalks are hardly better. The wedding venue also has uneven ground, plus grass (the dancefloor is solid, don't worry). So please plan your footwear accordingly!
What will the weather be like?
Expect high-80s and sunshine during the day, mid-60s at night, with low-to-medium humidity. March is the tail-end of the dry season, so rain is unlikely.
What is "festive" attire?
Mexico is a fun, colorful country so we want to encourage everyone to wear fun, colorful clothes. We like the description of "festive" provided in this article. Please consider the venue (outdoors) and the weather (warm). For men, think linen shirts and chinos; for women, flowy dresses and comfortable shoes.
Do I need pesos?
Yes. There are many expats in Ajijic but I have never seen a business accept USD. Street vendors and some smaller business will be cash-only. We usually use the BBVA ATM in the main town square, and I recommend checking your bank allows you to withdraw from international ATMs.
Do I need to tip?
Tipping is customary in Mexico just like in the United States. We usually tip 15% at restaurants. Just a headsup: if you pay with a card, the waiter will ask you verbally if you want to leave a tip and then enter it themselves, rather than have you write it on the receipt.
can i bring my kids?
Sure! You'll see their names when you go to RSVP. One important safety note for children (and adults who like to party): there is a pool in the center of the wedding venue.
